Oregon Roots
Raised in Aloha, Oregon, as the son of a Navy veteran and devoted mother, Brent Barker is the embodiment of the American Dream—earned through grit and perseverance.
The first in his family to complete College, he finished his master’s degree after tragically losing his father. From grade school on, Brent worked tirelessly: delivering papers, washing dishes, picking berries, mowing lawns, and learning a trade at his brother’s cabinet shop.
His late graduate school advisor Dr. Charles Scott would say – “Brent Barker has the highest social value system witnessed throughout my career in higher learning.”
Professional Journey and Community Service
A graduate in human physiology and public administration, he worked with athletes and teams, followed by a successful career in fitness facility management design – including The Athletic Club of Bend, Broken Top Golf, The Phoenician Resort, and a chain of 12 locations sold to a national brand. His expertise made him a professional spokesperson and TV guest. He then transitioned to investment real estate, rising quickly to Senior VP of Marketing focusing on large-scale developments. The 2008 crisis taught him a core lesson: always protect stakeholders and prepare for tough times.
Service defines Brent’s life. He’s raised funds for World Vision, volunteered to build homes with Homes for Hope, aided Hurricane Katrina victims, supported UMOM New Day Centers for the homeless, and completed over a dozen Nautica Malibu Triathlon’s that benefit Los Angeles Children’s Hospital. Honored as 2009 US-Asia Expo Ambassador for Arizona by the Phoenix Economic Council and received a 2015 Commendation Award for Public Service from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
Politically, Brent served in the Office of Advance in President Trump’s Executive Office of the President—coordinating arrivals, venues, staging, federal agencies, and community partners for high-stakes events. He’s run strong statewide campaigns: 2022 for Oregon Labor Commissioner and 2024 for Secretary of State. A graduate of the Leadership Institute’s International Division in Vienna, Austria, he’s an active Heritage Foundation Sentinel, member of the Multnomah Bar Association and Oregon Mediation Association while pursuing a law degree at Pepperdine University Caruso School of Law in Dispute Resolution, Mediation, and Arbitration—the skills needed to cut waste, negotiate wins, and unite for results.
Brent operated two statewide campaigns:
2022 Candidate for Oregon’s Labor Commissioner – Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI), and in 2024 Oregon Secretary of State.
